Every exhibitor asks the same question at some point: should we build custom, rent, or go modular? The honest answer is that there’s no universally right choice, only the right choice for your show schedule, your budget, and where your brand is headed. Here’s how to think it through before you commit.
A fully custom build is designed and fabricated specifically for your brand, from the ground up. Nothing is off the shelf. The layout, materials, finishes, and features are built around your goals for that space.
Best for: Brands with a flagship show, a major product launch, or a long-term exhibit program where the upfront investment pays off over multiple years of use.
Trade-offs: Higher upfront cost and the longest production timeline. You’re also responsible for storage and refurbishment between shows, but no worries, we take care of all of that.
Modular systems sit in the middle: a reusable kit of components; frames, panels, lighting and graphics that you own and can reconfigure into different footprints and layouts for different shows.
Best for: Brands attending multiple shows per year with different booth sizes, or anyone who wants a custom look without paying for a full custom build every time.
Trade-offs: More upfront cost than a single rental, though it typically pays for itself after a few shows. Reconfiguring the layout takes some planning, and very large or highly unusual designs may still call for custom elements.
Rental exhibits give you a professionally designed, high-quality booth without the ownership commitment. You pay for the use of the space, not the asset itself.
Best for: Testing a new show before committing to a permanent presence, one-off events, or years when travel and show costs are already stretching the budget.
Trade-offs: Less brand customization than a full custom build, and you’re choosing from what’s available rather than designing from a blank page. Costs can also add up if you’re renting frequently across many shows per year.
When you’re comparing options, factor in more than the initial quote:
The right answer often isn’t one option in isolation. Many exhibitors end up with a modular base system that gets dressed up with custom elements for their biggest show of the year. If you’re not sure which path fits your fall show plans and budget, let’s map it out together.
